PARTY POLITICS AND PERSONALITY CAMPAIGN

    By Taiwo Ibrahim

Campaign is heating up and gladiators are working hard to put things in different perspectives. Political scientists would tell you, in their theoretical approach, that parties are formed by people of like minds, sharing ideological views together. That’s their believe. In advanced climes, they can beat their chests “our postulation is right” but in Nigerian context, they seem not to have a correct academic approach. Parties here are just platforms to realise ambitions!

No. Capital NO. You should be proud to associate with your party. For instance, Peter Obi should be fully associated with APGA, but he isn.t.  Little wonder, Charles Soludo, incumbent, governor of Anambra on the platform of APGA has publicly disowned him.

The funniest political theatre of the moment is that of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. At every available forum, he would want people to believe that he is Tinubu and not Mohammadu Buhari, apparently saying his APC representative is not worthy to be associated with in the present day Nigeria if you desire to win a presidential election. Ma ko bami.

But Atiku Abubakar can boldly say my party brought GSM, every individual can own a phone, call his/her relative or business partners for transactions; worked out a modality for debt cancellation for the country, maintained fuel at reasonable price for Nigerians, kept the youths at home and so on and so forth.

On the other hand, Bola Tinubu will not want to be associated with banditry and kidnapping, terrorism and arson, characteristic of APC led Buhari government. Neither will he want people to associate him with hyper inflation, japaism of every opportuned Nigerian, energy failure, terrorism, incessant ASUU strike and the paralysis of our education system and many other vices that have permeated  our system. A wise contestant will distance himself from Buhari government.

But the fact remains that you can’t run away from your shadow. It’s your cross, it’s their cross, it’s their collective cross, they must bear the burden. May Nigerians never experience again all these hardships under Buhari government. And may we never experience whoever says he will continue the legacy of this administration.
