 DAM - WATER TOURISM

Oyo State has 20 Dams of various capacities as Ikere Gorge Dam being the largest.

IKERE GORGE DAM

The Ikere Gorge Dam is a major earth-fill dam in the Iseyin local government area of Oyo State in the southwest of Nigeria on the Ogun River. The reservoir capacity is 690 million cubic liters.

The Dam is capable of hosting water sports activities, hotels, recreational centers and luxury apartments.

It positions well with the Akosombo Dam in Ghana and Sun- City in South Africa.

 

ELEYELE DAM, IBADAN

This man-made Dam is blessed with green areas and inviting topography suited for water-based tourism and entertainment economic activities.

 


 IDERE HILLS, IBARAPA

Idere Hills is one of the latest tourist attractions in Oyo State. Idere Hills was recently commissioned as a tourist attraction site in Oyo in the year 2020 when Oyo state government celebrated the annual world tourism day. It is a historical mountain surrounded by a beautiful green landscape. This mountain has an interesting story dating back as far as over 600 years.

It is located in a quiet town in Idere, Ibarapa region in Oyo State. Idere Hills has one of the most beautiful landscapes in Nigeria. The views will take your breath away. Idere Hill is still in its natural state.

     


IYA MOPO AND AGBELE ROCKS, IGBETI

Iya Mopo Hill, the highest hill in Igbeti, which occupies over six kilometres of land mass and is as high as one hundred and fifty feet, was once used as a shelter against attacks.

Agbele Rock is a naturally formed statue said to depict a mother with a load on her head carrying her child.

The surrounding environment is wonderful.

Tourists flock to these two rocks, particularly during festivals.

It needs enhancement .

   

MONUMENTS AND HERITAGE

 BOWERS TOWER, IBADAN

As highlighted earlier, this place offers you a panoramic view of Ibadan. The first officially inaugurated tourist site in Nigeria.

It is waiting for enhancement

 


MAPO HALL. IBADAN.

 Mapo hall is the oldest and first public hall in Nigeria. Built in 1929, Mapo Hall has been described as the political campaign headquarters of Nigeria.

 


CULTURAL CENTRE, MOKOLA IBADAN.

An amusement centre built in 1977 on the site of one of the seven beautiful hills that make up Ibadanland.

It has some recreational facilities now for relaxation, fun and excitement.

 


 MANOR HOUSE, ISEYIN

This is the Residence of the Colonial Commissioners when Nigeria was under the British government. The artifacts of those times are kept there.

 


CHIEF AGBAJE SALAMI HOUSE, AYEYE, IBADAN

This is a replica of London Barclay's Bank.

 


IREFIN PALACE, IBADAN

An old palace with 250 rooms.
