Alhaji Kareem Adepoju, born January 4, 1945, popularly known as “Baba Wande” is a legendary Nigerian film actor, writer and producer.

He rose to stardom through a weekly Yoruba TV series "Kootu Ashipa" and a one-off titled "Oku roro" both by Oyin Adejobi. The appelation "Baba Wande" is  the name of a character which later stuck till date.

In 1993 after he starred as “Oloye Otun” in the movie titled Ti Oluwa Ni Ile.

Kareem Adepoju, born on January 6, 1945, in Osun State, Nigeria, hails from the family of Mr. and Mrs. Adepoju.

While details about his formal education are not available in the media, Adepoju mentioned in one of his interviews that, had he been educated, he expressed a desire to pursue a career as a director or manager in a company.

Kareem Adepoju commenced his professional acting career when he joined the newly founded Duro Ladipo Theatre Group in 1963.

Under the tutelage of Chief Oyin Adejobi, a distinguished Nigerian drama artist, he underwent a year of intensive training before becoming part of the Oyin Adejobi Theatre Group.

Over the span of more than four decades, Baba Wande, as he is affectionately known, has portrayed a diverse array of notable characters both on stage and in film.

Earning his place as one of the most esteemed actors within the Oyin Adejobi Company, Baba Wande became the focal point of the group’s epic compositions, including “Ekuro Oloja,” “Oba Igbalode,” and “Kuye.”

His achievements garnered praise then and continue to do so, solidifying his reputation as a versatile performer. Known for his ability to captivate audiences with both comedic flair and a compelling serious demeanor, Baba Wande remains a delight to watch on various occasions.

Beyond his prolific acting career, Baba Wande is recognized for his commitment to reading the Holy Quran.

Having acted in over 1,000 movies, he has not only showcased his talent but has also ventured into film production. Additionally, he has been the host of the “Iwa Lesin” Islamic television program.

With a career spanning more than 40 years, Baba Wande articulates his greatest professional goal as the establishment of a legitimate film town in Osun State.

This envisioned facility, akin to Africa’s Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, aims to support film production and contribute to the social and political development of the state.

Baba Wande’s journey in the entertainment industry includes memorable roles in TV shows such as portraying Kúyẹ̀ in the WNTV Ibadan classic series and featuring in made-for-TV movies like “Èkùrọ́ Ọlọ́ja” as Ayelaagbe.

His versatility is further evident in collaborations with various artists in the industry, including Funke Akindele, Toyin Adegbola, Kunle Afolayan, Moyo Lawal, and others.

His theatre group managerial sense has been unequalled.
