NANTAP HONOURS ELUMELU, OTHERS
The National Association Nigerian
of Theater Arts Practitioners held its National Delegates Convention for 2023
in Asaba, Delta State of Nigeria from 9th to 12th
November 2023.
For four days the city of
Asaba stood still as she hosted the crème de la crème of Art and Culture Practitioners
comprising writers, actors, theater directors, movie producers, dancers etc.
With the theme “BUILDING A BORDERLESS MARKET TO UNLOCK THE
POTENTIALS OF THE NIGERIAN CREATIVE ECONOMY”, the Delegates Convention
codenamed ASABA NDC 2023 featured Roundtable, Plenary, Performances and Award
Dinner.
A Panel Session featured
speakers from across the world and they delivered papers on different aspects
of the theatre world relating to the theme of the convention.

Mr Charles U Elumelu
was conferred with the honor as FELLOW
OF THEATER ARTS at the convention.
Elumelu has been in every
corner of the theatre, from the stage to the TV Screens and the celluloid. Charlie
has been an Actor, a Radio Presenter, a Director, a Script Writer, a Set
Designer, a Musicologist, a Photographer and a Cinematographer.
While reading his citation,
the presenter mentioned that Elumelu was admitted to Baptist Grammar School, Ibadan in January 1973. While there he
participated actively in the debates and drama societies. The foundation for
the multi-talented artist was being laid. He graduated from the school in June
1977.
Today Elumelu is an active
and influential member of the Baptist
Grammar School Old Students Association (BAGOSA).
Between 1978 and 1980,
Charles was a Trainee Presenter at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria,
Ibadan. (Then Radio Nigeria, Ibadan)
Charles Elumelu was at the University of Ilorin for his Higher Education from 1982 to 1987.
Charlie was a founding
member of the Spliff D band; two-time champions of the TUDMONT Club Nigerian
Universities Music Festival at the University of Ife (Now Obafemi Awolowo
University).
