BINTA AYO MOGAJI
Binta Ayo
Mogaji is a veteran Nigerian actress. According to the film critic Shaibu
Husseini, Mogaji has been a part of at least 800 films, television shows, and
theater productions.
Born in
1964, Mogaji is a native of Mogaji Oniseniyan compound, Oritamerin in Ibadan.
Her father was an Islamic cleric, while her mother was an education
administrator. Her father Imam I. S. Mogaji was the first Chief Imam of Ansar
ud Deen Society of Nigeria.
Her mother
was from the Bello family of Aremo in
Ibadan North East.
Binta grew
up a “Tomboy”, playing football with boys. She still loves football. She loves
swimming too but can’t swim.
She attended
Isabatudeen Girls Grammar School in Ibadan from where she walked to NTA, Ibadan
to watch stage plays and rehearsals. She
later got invited into roles for
children at NTA. There the STAR WAS BORN.
Her debut
was in the Television series “WHY WORRY” and later “COCO CLOSE”. She worked with legends like Dele Morakinyo and Felix Omuni.
Her first home video film was Mojere, which was done in Yoruba. She was awarded "Best Actress" at the REEL Awards. In 2015, Mogaji debunked filmmakers' preference for younger generation actors in Nollywood. She explained that their reasons cannot be based on the act of professionalism, because there is nothing younger actors were doing that the older ones can't still do.
In a 2018
interview with The Punch, Mogaji explained that due to her Islamic background,
she has never acted semi-nude or kissed throughout her decades of practicing as
an actress. She noted that producers know the type of role she can play.
In 2006, she married retired soccer player and physiotherapist, Victor Ayodele Oduleye.
Prior to her marriage, she was romantically involved with actor Jibola Dabo and had a son as a result of the relationship. In interviews given in the past, the respected actress has had to debunk rumours of getting married to Dabo. Mogaji has always made it clear that they only have a child together.
