THOUGHTS: FEW ARE CALLED. MANY ARE CHOSEN
In the
Bible, Christ spoke to the people in parables many times.
One of such
is in the 22nd chapter in the book of St Matthew. It was about a king who
invited people to his son's wedding party but they wouldn't come. In verse 14,
He ended the story with "For many are called, but few are chosen".
The general
call of the gospel goes out to everyone, good and bad, but not all respond.
There are two types of “calls”.
One is a
general call to all people, and the other is an effectual call or in other words,
the celestial call of the Holy Spirit.
Of the
multitude of people that are called to the faith, the many practitioners of the
faith, only a few will be chosen. They are the anointed ones of God. They are
the special few.
THE CHOSEN
ONES.
Same applies
to all faith.
In Islam
many are called Muslims nominally. They are the many that are called. But the
few that are special are the clerics, chosen specially by Allah. They are
imbued with Knowledge and Wisdom. They are the few that are chosen.
The saying
connotes a sorting process; a separation of the Chaff from the Wheat. Yes many
are called but few are chosen.
In the
Comradium where the lingua franca is my Papa's languajira, few are called and
many are chosen. But it is just fun. In the Comradium we flex with words and it
is karid. Komrados cannot decode.
If you don’t
gerrit, forgerrit.
Away from
Religion and the Comradium. My mind is somewhere else: Politics, Governance,
Business and everyday life.
When someone
is called, he has a calling, a talent, a core competency, something he does
naturally with ease.
·
A pastor or imam that has a calling is
easily distinguished.
·
A musician that doesn't have the calling
will make noise instead of music.
·
When watching films it is easy to pick
out actors who are called.
·
There are engineers with the calling.
There are lawyers' lawyers. I know a vet doctor who is best known for his brand
of music worldwide.
·
How many people will believe the world
known Yoruba actress Toyin Adegbola is an electrical engineer. The Theatre Arts
is her calling.
Those called
abound in our society. But in Governance and public administration we seldom do
find people who are called in the areas that need them.
The called
ones are few. The many that are chosen for the jobs are square pegs in round
holes.
The criteria
for choosing them are other things than their calling and competency.
They are
chosen for roles different from that for which they are called.
It is few
and far between to find called ones being chosen.
A president without a knowledge of the feelings of his citizens
·
A governor with the temperament of a
warthog
·
A police Inspector General who cannot
communicate with his men
·
An official Information Officer who lies
·
A Commissioner or Minister who acts at
variance to public good.
·
A Chief Executive who cannot manage human
resources.
·
An Association or Community head who is
paranoid and arrogant
·
A Pastor who is caught in a web of cult
and corruption
So many who
have been chosen to positions are not called.
Today, I see
of the many in position of authority FEW
ARE CALLED, BUT MANY A CHOSEN.
Just Chosen
but not called. That's why we are where we are today.
In Nigeria
today, it’s been almost a year since we chose those to lead the nation for
another four years.
In our
Associations, clubs, unions etc, we have had to choose who leads us.
What kind of
people did we vote into power?
The FEW that are CALLED or the MANY that
are CHOSEN?
