DEATH: AYOKA ADEBAYO PASSES ON

The death has been announced of Chief Mrs Olusola Ayoka Adebayo, the Matriarch of Adebayo Familiy of Olusomi Compound in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The Owu Kingdom, Abeokuta has lost Chief Mrs. Ayoka Adebayo, the one-time INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) at Ekiti State who passed away on Saturday, 18th May, 2024. She was aged 88 years.

Chief Ayoka Adebayo was born on October 15, 1935.

Her death was confirmed by her son Akogun Oluwole Adebayo in a short message on Saturday which read “My mom, Chief Mrs Olusola Ayoka Adebayo just went to be with the Lord today, May 18th, 2024 at the ripe age of 88. Please keep us in your prayers.”

The late Chief Mrs. Adebayo was more than a public servant; she was a pillar of support and a source of inspiration.

The Owu Kingdom in Abeokuta and many others who knew her work and character, are mourning the loss of a remarkable leader and a devoted advocate for democracy.

The news of her passing has elicited an outpouring of tributes from various quarters, highlighting her role as a dedicated public servant and a key figure in the fight for electoral integrity in Nigeria.

Many have recalled her tireless efforts to promote fairness and her unyielding commitment to the principles of democracy.

Chief Mrs Adebayo in her lifetime was honoured with many chieftaincy titles in recognition of her contribution to humanity and service to God. Some of them were:

·         Moraje of Owu

·         Iya Oba of Ibogun Olaogun

·         Yeye Alakoso of Owudotun

·         Gesinga of Owu Female Christian Chiefs

·         Jagunmolu Obinrin of Egba Christian Chiefs
