AGBOWORIN SPONSORS CRUCIAL BILL. SEEKS ALTERATION OF IBADAN CENTRAL LG TO REFLECT IBADAN NORTH EAST LG
The Ibadan North-East Local Government Area was
established in 1991.
The urban area of Ibadan Northeast LGA is 18 square
kilometers in size. The state's largest
motor spare parts market, Araromi Spare Parts Market, is located in Ibadan
Northeast LGA and is quite well-known. There are also a number of banks,
lodging facilities, and leisure areas in the LGA. The region is also home to a
number of governmental and private establishments
Ibadan North East is one of the most economically vibrant
of the eleven Local Governments in Ibadan Land. It also has the second largest
population in Oyo State. It has the second largest voter population in the
state, behind Ibadan South West Local Government.
There had been little or no efforts to correct this
daunting anomaly until some days ago.
Ibadan North East falls under Ibadan North East/Ibadan
South East Federal Constituency.
A bill seeking the alteration of Ibadan Central local
government area to reflect the proper name ‘Ibadan North-East Local Government
Area’, has passed first reading in the House of Representatives.
The bill, which was sponsored by the Lawmaker
representing Ibadan North East/South East Federal constituency, Rep. Abass A.
Adigun, popularly known as Agboworin, is now set for second reading.
According to the draft bill, it proposes to amend the
Part 1 of the First Schedule to the 1999 Constitution in Paragraph 30, line 2,
which reads ‘Ibadan Central Local Government Area’ instead of Ibadan North-East
Local Government Area’, which is one of the 33 Local Government Areas in Oyo
State.
Sponsoring the Bill during plenary session on Thursday,
Agboworin, who is also the Chairman of the House Committee on Narcotic Drugs,
lamented the anomaly, which has lingered since the enactment of the 1999
Constitution.
He maintained that no bold attempt has been taken to
effect necessary correction by previous representatives from the Constituency
or Senators representing the Oyo South Senatorial District under which the
jurisdiction falls.
The lawmaker, therefore, took it upon himself to see that
this error is corrected, seeking the cooperation of his colleagues in the House
to support the passage of the bill through a second reading.
Agboworin said: “There has been a mistake in the name since the enactment of the 1999 constitution as amended, it has lingered for many years.
“No past lawmaker has looked into the aspect of effecting
the correction. But I am here today to do the needful by sponsoring a bill
seeking for alteration for the benefit of our people and Oyo State in general.”
This laudable act adds to the performance index of the
lawmaker. Hon Adigun has a record of excellent performance both in legislative
and oversight functions as well as community development and citizen response.
He is currently involved in a 1.6km Asphalt Laying On
Kajola-Irede Academy Road, On Oba Adebimpe Layout to Odinjo Junction, and Asphalt
Laying On Fidi Layout.
A political bigwig in the constituency Hon Dare Adeleke,
while speaking on the performance of Hon. Agboworin, said that his achievements
were unprecedented in the anal of representation
in the state.
He equally hailed the lawmaker for remaining focused and
determined towards ensuring dividends of democracy get to the doorsteps of the
people through his office.
Adeleke, who stated this in a post on a PDP WhatsApp
loop, on Wednesday morning, stated that Agboworin deserves to be commended,
having carried out a lot of massive constituency projects beyond the
expectation of people.
While adding that none of the former House of
Representatives members have performed like Agboworin, Adeleke explained that
the lawmaker has absolutely impressed him with his performance.
Agboworin is unarguably one of the best performing
Members of the Federal House of Representatives from Oyo State in the National
Assembly.
