NEWS: OYO STATE: MAKINDE ALLY, BEN AKIKA KIDNAPPED
A long-standing ally of Seyi Makinde, the Executive
Governor of Oyo State, Agbaakin Benedict
Akika has reportedly been kidnapped in Ibadan the capital of Oyo State on
Wednesday night.
Akika, who is known for his philanthropy and support of
the government of Governor Seyi Makinde was said to have been kidnapped at his
residence at Idi Ape along Olorunda Abba, Lagelu local government area of Oyo
state.
Media reports revealed that the gunmen, who were armed to
the teeth, invaded his residence and threatened to shoot any of the occupants
that might put up resistance.
A family source, who did not want his name in the print,
said the victim was relaxing with his family when the gunmen stormed his
residence.
The source said, There was sporadic gunshot which was
aimed at scaring the residents and passersby.
“He was later whisked away on Wednesday night to an
unknown destination., He said.
Another source said, “He was kidnapped last night. And
this is a man that empowered some widows and the less privileged with work
tools worth millions of naira at his Olorunda residence a few weeks ago.”
According to unconfirmed report, one person was said to
have been killed by the assailants.
Benedict Akika is the founder of the Omituntun Benedict
Forum (OBF) which has been involved in philanthropic activities, community
development efforts and has been a recipient of many awards and chieftaincy
titles in recognition of his kind hearted gestures.
The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), the
umbrella body of Ibadan Inigenous Socio-cultural groups recently conferred the
“Most Outstanding Friend of Ibadanland” (MOFI) award on Agbaakin Benedict Akika
at the 2024 Fellowship Awards during the Ibadan Cultural Week Festival.
As at the time of this report, the whereabouts of Akika
is still unknown.
