EVENTS: SOUTHERN WOMEN EMPOWERMENT FORUM OYO STATE CHAPTER Brings Women Empowerment Program to Ibadan.




It was pomp and pageantry at the Jogor Center in Ibadan on Thursday 3rd October 2024.

 In a groundbreaking move, Dr. Helen Adebakin who is the National president of Southern Women Empowerment Forum with Oyo State chapter Coordinator, Comrade Mrs. Kobiowu, and Lady Bimbo Fafowora stormed Ibadan with a comprehensive women empowerment program.

 This initiative aims to foster women's decision-making and empowerment in the community. The program is designed to address the challenges faced by women, particularly in some areas where gender inequities are more pronounced.

 Key Objectives of the Program were

  • Promoting Women's Decision Making
  • Encouraging women to take active roles in family and community decision-making processes.
  • Empowerment through Education
  • Providing Fund, some useful materials and resources to enhance women's economic and social status.
  • Community Development
  • Supporting community-based projects to improve the quality of life for women and their families.

 


This empowerment program is a significant step towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals in Nigeria, particularly in the areas of gender equality and women's empowerment.  By supporting women's empowerment, SOUTHERN WOMEN EMPOWERMENT FORUM, OYO STATE CHAPTER are helping to create a more inclusive and equitable society.

 A keynote address titled ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT THROUGH ENTREPRENEURSHIP was delivered by Dr, Funke Adetuberu.

 The programme was attended by women across the 33 Local Government areas in Oyo State.

The Central Council of Ibadan Indegenes (CCII) was represented by members of the Executive Council..

Coordinators of Southern Women Empowerment Forum (SWEF) from other Southwest States.



At the programme, women from across the state were empowered wit items including cash, sewing machines, grindineng machines and power generators.

Speaking with press afterwards, Comrade Kobiowu emphasized that the empowerment programme is not a one-off affair but a continuous exercise.

She also said fiscal, economic and political empowerment of women are key to national develoopment.

Kobiowu thanked members, especially the organizing committee, for their commitment and sacrifice.
